Chobe National Park

A river system where wildlife gathers in extraordinary numbers

Overview

Chobe National Park is one of Africa’s most wildlife-rich regions, shaped by the constant presence of the Chobe River. Along its banks, vast herds of elephants, buffalo, and antelope gather daily, creating one of the most reliable safari experiences in Botswana.

The river defines movement here. In the dry season, animals concentrate along the water, while predators move through the surrounding woodland and floodplains. Boat safaris offer a different perspective, bringing you close to elephants crossing the river, hippos surfacing nearby, and crocodiles resting along the shoreline.

Chobe is known for scale and consistency. It is a place where wildlife encounters feel frequent, dynamic, and often unfold in full view along the riverfront.

Consistent game viewing with high wildlife density
First-time safaris and classic African scenes
Those wanting a balance of land and water activities

When to Visit

May to September (Peak season)
Wildlife gathers in large numbers along the Chobe River as water becomes scarce elsewhere. Elephant herds move constantly between forest and riverfront, and sightings are at their most consistent.

Ideal for
Large herds, riverfront activity, and classic safari conditions

October to April (Transition season)
The landscape shifts with rising temperatures and the arrival of rain. Wildlife becomes more dispersed as water spreads across the park, while birdlife increases and the environment becomes greener and more dynamic.

Ideal for
A more seasonal experience, birdlife, and fewer visitors
